O período chuvoso é propício para o aumento da população destes mosquitos que passam a circular mais nas áreas urbanas e, consequentemente dentro das residências.
Nesta região do país, de forma geral, as diversas espécies de mosquitos são apelidadas de carapanã e pertencem a uma família de insetos, que são habitualmente conhecidos como muriçocas, mosquitos ou pernilongos.
Dentre os mosquitos, estão o Culex e o Aedes aegypti, que são presentes no meio urbano o ano inteiro, porém as populações dessas espécies aumentam nesta época justamente por causa das chuvas.
Estas duas espécies de mosquitos são transmissores de uma série de doenças, entre elas dengue, chikungunya e zika, que preocupam hoje, todo o país.
Em casa, a principal forma de combater a proliferação dos mosquitos é eliminando possíveis criadouros, ou seja, estar constantemente mantendo o quintal limpo e sem acúmulo de água. Portanto, evitar água parada em pneus, latas e garrafas vazias sempre é importante, assim como cuidar das plantas e vasos, potes e outros objetivos que acumulam água.
