Romário deve voltar a atuar profissionalmente como jogador de futebol. O protagonista da conquista do tetracampeonato da seleção brasileira em 1994 e hoje senador (PL-RJ), de 58 anos, foi inscrito pelo América-RJ, do qual também é o presidente, para defender as cores do clube na disputa da segunda divisão do Campeonato Carioca, que começa em maio.
Romário é torcedor declarado do América-RJ, paixão herdada do pai, Seu Edevair de Souza Faria, que morreu em 2008.
O último jogo como profissional foi justamente pelo América-RJ, em 2009, quando atendeu ao desejo do pai e entrou em campo com a camisa vermelha do clube no jogo que garantiu o acesso à primeira divisão do estadual daquele ano.
Em um vídeo publicado na segunda-feira (15) nas redes sociais do América-RJ, Romário aparece em um campo de futebol segurando nas mãos um documento que diz ter acabado de assinar. “Em breve, novidades”, afirmou.
Ele terá como companheiros de equipe o atacante André, que atuou ao lado de Neymar e Ganso no Santos, além do próprio filho, Romarinho.
O prazo do contrato é até dezembro, e prevê o pagamento de um salário-mínimo, que será doado ao clube.
Revelado nas categorias de base do Vasco da Gama, Romário defendeu PSV (Holanda) e Barcelona (Espanha) e voltou ao Brasil pouco após a conquista do tetra com a seleção nos Estados Unidos para jogar pelo Flamengo. Ele atuou novamente pelo Vasco ao longo da carreira e também defendeu o Fluminense no Brasil.
