O Dia Nacional do Livro Didático é comemorado anualmente em 27 de fevereiro, no Brasil. Esta data homenageia uma das ferramentas essenciais para a formação educacional dos alunos: o livro didático.
O livro didático reúne as informações que o aluno necessita para ajudar a desenvolver o seu conhecimento, em todas as etapas da educação – desde o ensino fundamental até os superiores.
Os livros didáticos também são muito importantes para orientar os educadores (professores), no processo de ensino e aprendizagem.
A professora Nazaré Ferreira, de Língua Portuguesa, disse em entrevista que “o livro didático é um recurso importantíssimo para os professores, é um apoio, principalmente para as escolas públicas em que os alunos não tem recursos econômicos para comprar apostilas.” Ela também reforçou que utiliza o livro didático e faz sempre uma seleção das atividades para cada turma de acordo com a metodologia que vai utilizar.
No Brasil as primeiras ideias sobre o livro didático surgiu em 1929, com a criação do Instituto Nacional do Livro (INL) – instituto criado para legitimar o livro didático nacional e auxiliar na sua produção.
Desde 1985, o Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD), é o responsável por fornecer todos os livros didáticos para os alunos das redes públicas de ensino de todo o país.
Segundo o Fundo Nacional da Educação (FNDE), todos os anos cerca de 150 milhões de livros didáticos circulam por mais de 140 mil escolas brasileiras e chegam a 40 milhões de estudantes.
O Ministério da Educação (MEC) faz um investimento de R$ 1,9 bilhão anualmente em obras didáticas.
