A Doença de Chagas também chamada de tripanossomíase americana, é uma infecção causada pelo protozoário Trypanosoma cruzi, tem desenvolvimento clínico lento e frequentemente assintomático. O diagnóstico da doença de chagas é feito por meio do exame de sangue. Os testes de doença de chagas são recomendados especialmente para os pacientes que apresentam os sintomas da condição e que vivem nas regiões onde essa doença é endêmica e comum, como a região Norte do País.
Como ocorre a transmissão?
▫️contato com fezes de parasitas infectados, após picada pelo inseto barbeiro;
▫️ingestão de alimentos contaminados;
▫️transmissão de parasitas de mulheres infectadas para seus bebês, durante a gravidez ou o parto;
▫️transfusão de sangue ou transplante de órgãos de doadores infectados a receptores sadios;
▫️acidentalmente, pelo contato da pele ferida ou de mucosas, com material contaminado.
Quais os principais sintomas da doença?
▫️Na fase aguda: febre prolongada, ou seja, por mais de sete dias, dor de cabeça, fraqueza intensa, inchaço no rosto e nas pernas.
▫️Na fase crônica, algumas pessoas podem apresentar problemas cardíacos e problemas digestivos, como megacolon e megaesôfago.
Tratamento
A doença de chagas tem cura durante a fase aguda, quando o protozoário ainda circula pelo sangue do indivíduo. São utilizados medicamentos que têm como objetivo matá-lo e impedir sua reprodução, para que a doença possa regredir.
O mesmo medicamento pode ser usado na fase crônica, mas com menos chances de sucesso. De modo geral, quem tem doença de chagas crônica precisa realizar um acompanhamento médico constante, para impedir que a condição evolua ou traga novos sintomas para o paciente.
