Vale pontuar que, originalmente, o plano do UFC era realizar a luta entre ‘Bones’ e ‘The Predator’ pelo cinturão, mas ela ficou apenas no papel, porque o camaronês não renovou o contrato com a companhia e saiu dela deixando para trás o status de número um da divisão e, consequentemente, o título dela. Então, se antes o estadunidense afirmou que Francis tomou tal decisão por ter medo de enfrentá-lo e não confiar em suas habilidades, agora, foi ainda mais longe e hostil em seu discurso. O astro do MMA zombou do rival e ressaltou que ele não possui o coração de um lutador de verdade.

Jon Jones, que tem hoje 35 anos, é integrante do ‘Hall da Fama’ do UFC, ex-campeão dos meio-pesados e, agora, detentor do cinturão do peso-pesado. Não à toa, o campeão é apontado por boa parte dos fãs como o melhor lutador da história do MMA. Em sua carreira, o estadunidense venceu 27 lutas, perdeu uma e a outra terminou sem resultado. Seus principais triunfos foram sobre Alexander Gustafsson (duas vezes), Anthony Smith, Chael Sonnen, Ciryl Gane, Daniel Cormier, Dominick Reyes, Glover Teixeira, Lyoto Machida, Maurício ‘Shogun’, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, Rashad Evans, Ryan Bader, Thiago ‘Marreta’ e Vitor Belfort.
