Adhemar Ferreira da Silva foi incluído no Livro dos Heróis e Heroínas da Pátria, e está no Panteão da Pátria e da Liberdade, em Brasília. Nesta quinta-feira (11) a lei foi publicada no Diário Oficial da União.
O Comitê Olímpico Brasileiro (COB) identifica Adhemar Ferreira da Silva como um dos maiores nomes da história do esporte brasileiro. O atleta brasileiro disputou quatro edições dos Jogos Olímpicos e conquistou a medalha de ouro em Helsinque, em 1952, e em Melbourne, em 1956, tornando-se o primeiro bicampeão olímpico do Brasil.
Ao longo de uma carreira fantástica, Adhemar quebrou cinco vezes o recorde mundial do salto triplo e foi tricampeão dos Jogos Pan-Americanos. Além destes resultados expressivos, o brasileiro criou uma comemoração que se tornou tradicional nos jogos. Em Helsinque 1952, ao celebrar o ouro, deu a primeira volta olímpica da história em um estádio.
O herói brasileiro começou no esporte por acaso, aos 18 anos. Competiu pelo São Paulo e pelo Vasco, sempre treinado pelo histórico Dietrich Gerner. Figura fora do comum em todos os esportes, Adhemar Ferreira da Silva, formou-se em direito, belas artes, relações públicas e educação física, falava vários idiomas, foi adido cultural do Brasil na Nigéria e colunista do jornal Última Hora. Também participou do filme Orfeu Negro, vencedor da Palma de Ouro em Cannes e do Oscar de filme estrangeiro, em 1959. Adhemar morreu em 2001.
